WOMEN GROUP SLAMS KWARA APC CHIEF OVER ‘DISCRIMINATORY’ COMMENT

Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman Bashiru Bolarinwa has come under criticism over his alleged comments rejecting and carpeting the nomination of nine women commissioner-designates by the state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In a statement on Thursday, Nigeria Young Women Political Forum (NYWPF) described Bolarinwa’s comment as derogatory and discriminatory against the womenfolk, demanding that he apologises to the women and AbdulRazaq.

“The NYWPF condemns in all totality the discriminatory speech from you in reference to Governor AbdulRazaq on his nomination of women to serve in his administration. On behalf of Nigerian women and girls, we request an apology from you,” Bello Ruqayyah, Secretary General of the group, said in a statement.

“No nation will develop without promoting gender inclusion in its workforce. Nigerian women also risked their lives during elections in Nigeria while contributing their own quota. We say no to gender discrimination in Kwara and in all Nigerian states. We demand that you apologise to the Kwara State Governor and to Kwara women and girls.”

The NYWPF statement came three days after a statement emerged on some media platforms purportedly from Bolarinwa condemning the nomination of nine women as commissioner-nominees.

“The party express (sic) her dissatisfaction on the commissioner nominations of Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq. The nominations featured more than 50% women and sidelined prominent male liberators,” the statement quoted Bolarinwa as saying.

“It saddened our hearts that those who risked their lives and worked tirelessly to ensure the party took over the control of governance in the state from Bukola Saraki in the last general elections were left unconsidered only to nominate mere women where loyal party men could have done better.”

However, there was also a counter statement purportedly from Bolarinwa denying issuing the first statement that had rejected the cabinet list.

“The release making the rounds that the APC in Kwara is bemoaning the commissionership nominations of Governor AbdulRazaq is nothing but a ruse. The write up, purportedly issued and signed by the State chairman, did not emanate from him. He neither authored or (sic) caused it to be authored on his behalf. It can therefore only remain a figment of imagination of the faceless authors who want to embarrass the state chairman by all means,” according to the new statement credited to him.

The chairman has yet to officially speak on the issue, although the nomination of the women has attracted praises from across the country.
